How To Get Rid Of Back/Knee Pain In 5 Minutes ?

Due to changing lifestyles, most of the people have to sit in one place for many hours. It is a dangerous habit. Like machines get rusty when kept unused for an extended period, so is our body. Sitting in one posture for a long time repeatedly can cause critical damage in the long term. Not only can it cause joint pain and back pain, but it can also cause diabetes, high/low blood pressure, obesity, etc. So, while working on the laptop or sitting in your chair, try to take a break every hour. Just go for a walk and move your body parts.

However, if you experience back pain or knee pain, due to physical stress, here is a simple method to get rid of it temporarily. It is an acupressure point, shown in the pic below. It lies between the fleshy part located between your thumb and forefinger. Just press this area along the bone of your thumb and try to find the point which is aching the most. This point has a nerve ending which meets with the point in the spinal chord that is aching. Press this point for 1 minute; rest for 20 seconds and again press it for 1 minute. Continue this process for 5 minutes. You'll find that your pain has reduced considerably. Repeat this process three times a day until the pain is cured in your acupressure point.

Trust Vs Relationship Relation

Trust Vs Relationship Relation

Trust is directly proportional to Strength/State/Level of a Relationship.

Lesser the Trust, Lesser will be the Strength of the Relationship!

Lesser the Strenght, weaker is the Bond.

Hence in a Relationship, you must trust your partner.

Feelings Are Like Energy

Feelings Are Like Energy
Feelings Are Like Energy

Feelings are like energy. If your anger is more than your love, then you will be angry, and love will hide behind all the complaints and anger you developed within you.

So, your outrage and claims don't imply that you lost the spark in your relationship. It only suggests that you need to diminish these negative sentiment within you by talking and clearing things up a little with your companion. ~( How To Solve Relationship Fights).

Does Love Reduce With Time?

Introduction:-
If you are busy and want to know the answer asap then you can check out the last italic paragraph and the image. That's the solution. Well if you have time and want to read something, well it's not much of a Christmas post, but it's not bad either :p you can read this post ;) :D And also you can drop your feedback as a comment at the end. Both negative, as well as positive feedback, are always welcome here.

Love Does Not Reduce With Time

People fear and are restricting their thoughts to this false interpretation these days; they think it's a fact:-
With time love reduce & people breakup or loose interest in their partner
This false fact has ruined many relationships which could have been a happy one.

People who believe this, stopped at it, maybe because the devil inside them made them stop right there. Well, there is both good and evil in us ( Mind Needs Meditation ). Our Choices become our Decision; our Decision becomes our Reaction, and our Reactions define our Character. If you make a wrong decision, i.e., if you believe in false interpretation then your response will be based on it. So it is high time you get introduced to some real facts which will make your life easier.

Why do couples fight?
  • Misunderstanding.
  • Confusion
  • Misbehaviour
  • Mood Swings
... etc., etc., I am sure you can point out many LOL :D

You already know unless you remove each other's doubts you can't conclude how to go ahead. Assuming things like what your companion might be thinking will only ruin things. Never think and judge your loved ones. Instead, you can directly ask them calmly ( How to Solve Relationship Fights. ).

Relationship between Trust and Strength/State/Level of Relationship

The false interpretation got it's origin from Trust Issues,

"TRUST"- is the most important factor in any relationship.

TRUST is proportional to the level/State/Strength of the Relationship,

Relationship between Trust and Strength/State/Level of Relationship.
The relationship between Trust and Strength/State/Level of Relationship.

Lesser the Trust, Lesser will be the Strength of your Relationship

Lesser the Strength, most likely the bond will break.

Love is an attractive divine force on Earth which keeps people together and make this world look beautiful.

Love neither ends nor reduce, it can only increase. If it reduces then my friend it was infatuation, not Love. Infatuation is an illusion of love; it's ain't no love but mere attraction.

Never Let Anger Grow More Than Your Love
Never Let Anger Grow More Than Your Love
Trust is imperative; you already know only by trusting your partner you can be happy, yet you doubt that your partner might be avoiding you. Will he/she avoid you on purpose? If yes wouldn't there be any reason? By questioning your partner with mere assumption will make your anger and complaints grow more than your love. As these emotions get stronger than your love, you tend to be sad and moody. Nobody likes to be sad and irritated about something, so you feel like your love reduced, as you hate him/her more than you love em'. Just like Newton's 3rd Law of motion, your partner will feel the same about you when you will show your negative thinking for him/her. Energy gets transferred. You see how this mere little inference that "love reduces with time" can ruin a relation.

The spark, you feel like reduced is just because you doubt and trust less; the evil mind makes you do so. In reaction to your action, your partner's evil mind and ego make them avoid you. What you must do is:-

Trust your partner, if he/she doesn't reply or chat, ask him/her later for the reason of their bad mood, you must ask questions like "is there any problem in your life dear?", "is something troubling you?", If they are comfortable sharing it with you, they will share, else give them some space on this topic and let them be ready to tell you about it themselves. All you should do is trust that your partner will never avoid you on purpose. Don't doubt and give them pain as they might be already in pain. As a right partner, you must comfort them.

We can also learn what's true love from the story of a beautiful dog named Hachiko.

Love never reduce. Trust Issues are the big little nasty thing which hides the love in you and strengthens the devil in you so much that you lose your mind and fight. Fights are so irritating and detrimental that the love in you gets so hidden behind this negativity that you might break up. So my friends, Trust your partner. If you can't trust, then there is no much hope, after all. Try to solve your fight as we mentioned in our post-"how to solve relationship issues." , if this didn't work then try talking to a counselor or at the end if nothing works then you should decide something about it. Well breakup sounds good in hopeless cases, but you have to try to solve things if you were in love ever- It's purely our opinion as a friend.

How to tackle the perpetual drought situation?

Several parts of our country are currently facing a severe drought. Some parts of MP, UP, and especially Maharashtra haven't got even clean drinking water.

The worst hit is the Latur district of Maharashtra, which has been battling severe drought from last three years, and is barely able to meet the drinking water needs of its 5 lakh citizens, with just  1% storage water remaining is the reservoirs. Due to lack of surface water, people are forced to drink water from borewells, which contains a high level of salts, resulting in increasing cases of kidney stones. Apart from that, people are facing scorching heat which is causing dehydration, resulting in more diseases. The situation is dreadful. But what are the reasons that induced such a severe drought?

Cracked Land, Drought
Cracked Land, Drought

This drought is befalling due to inadequate rainfall during monsoon for the last two years. But what are the underlying reasons for poor monsoons? People can blame El-Nino conditions for it. My grandmother tells me that when she was young, it used to rain incessantly for a week, sometimes even for two weeks. Nowadays, even without "El Nino", the best of the rains continue for 2-3 hours at most. So what has changed over the last 60 years?

I think there are two underlying reasons for this which are difficult to revert quickly. The first reason being deforestation and the second reason being our vast, ever-increasing population.

You can cut trees as long as you are cutting them for developing the necessary infrastructure like roads, bridges, power plants, etc. But cutting forests for developing real estate projects is stupidity. Just because you want to live near a particular city, you just can't destroy the established ecosystem around it.

One of the most pertinent reasons for deforestation is that people in rural areas are still using wood as fuel. Some of them being so poor that they can't afford LPG connection. And the other ones, who can afford it, want to obtain additional income by selling wood. The government might be trying to do something about the fuel problem by enabling free LPG connection to poor people. But it isn't enough.

When you cut a big tree, you destroy an alive being which has developed over many decades. You obviously can't replace it by planting a new tree. Because a new tree would take many decades to reach the same size and produce the same amount of oxygen. Even a hundred new trees can't replace an old one. So we have done an almost irreparable damage by letting people ruin our forests. And that's why we are facing severe droughts and pollution.

The second reason for these droughts is our huge population. Over the last 50-60 years, our population has more than tripled from 36 crores to 125. We're one of the most densely populated countries in the world. We're the so-called third largest economy in the world. But we're ranked 122 by per capita income, not much better than African countries! And how is our population responsible for droughts? Because over the last 60-70 years, while our population was increasing our natural resources were declining at an equally fast pace. So our natural resources per capita(including forests, water, fuel, etc.) is less than one-fourth of what it was 60 years ago. This situation is made graver by the fact that today we receive much lesser rainfall than what we used to experience earlier (Ironically because of deforestation). Thus, the water we're pumping from the ground is not replenished adequately by the poor rains, resulting in declining water levels. Had our population been under ten crores, our citizens would be very wealthy, with plenty of resources to spare.

Neither can we revert deforestation, nor can we reduce our population(instantly). We'll have to bear the consequences of our mistakes.

But there are few things which can be done to save a little bit of water.

 1.  The government should charge for the amount of water consumed. For example, the first 1000 liters will be free of cost; the next 1000 will cost INR 1/litre, and the next 1000 liters will cost INR 2/litre. Even if people are pumping water from boring, they will pay for it. People will probably hate the government for doing this, but the government should do it with immediate effect. We don't care for things that we get for free, be it food, water or electricity. We waste many liters of water just for bathing or washing our cars or watering plants. Much more than necessary. Some of us misuse drinking water by drinking just a sip and throwing away the rest. It will be interesting to see how people use water after if they have to pay for it.

2.  Cutting trees should become a criminal offense with substantial penalties and 2-3 year-long sentences.  Sometimes we need to take drastic measures to bring fundamental changes.

These are the two steps I'm suggesting. Other actions can be taken like laying cross country pipelines, building lakes, connecting rivers, etc., but these steps will take time. Do you have any ideas to tackle the perpetual drought situation?

How To Solve Relationship Fights?

SOME RELATIONSHIP HAS SERIOUS PROBLEMS

let's look into it after reading few lines of a lover for his love, both in Hindi and English

(English)
How to tell you, my anger was only a way to stop you from harming yourself..!
How to tell you, I can't bear you not talking to me..!
How to tell you, to understand my heart..!
How to tell you, I can't bear anyone including you judging our love..!
How to tell you, how much did you misunderstand me..!
How to tell you, though you live in my heart yet you didn't understand it..!

Well it's sad, isn't it? It is due to lack of understanding between the couple. You see Misunderstanding and distrust are the two simple words but so powerful that if it interferes with a relationship it can meddle with your brain and castigate new relationships so mercilessly that the latter often break down within days.

Solution:

Pre-Requisite: - If your BF puts restrictions on you and if he is not ready to compromise then make him read this post - Restrictions. Now that you both are willing to sort things out like mature adults, you can continue reading.

Solve Relationship Fights Calmly With Love
Solve Relationship Fights Calmly With Love

1. You and your companion must remain calm and follow the rules mentioned in point 3, during this mature chat.

2. It's imperative that you both should mutually want things to be as they were.

3. These are the rules you both should follow:-

a. You must stay calm and ready to be a good listener the entire time.

b. When one person talks, other has to listen and note down what point they have to ask or clarify when it's their turn to speak.

c. When one person talks, other can't interrupt or talk until the speaker tells, "I kept my points unfold, and now I am ready to listen."

d. If you didn't follow or hear what your partner said in between, still you can't interrupt. But you can make a note of it and ask about it later on or, raise your hand for your partner to be comfortable and let you speak when he/she is ready to take any query related to any of his words that might have seemed anomalous for you to jot down.

e. Note conclusion of each point and at last, make a list of all solution you found out and take 2 Xerox copies of it, and keep it in a file signed.

4. Follow your inferences to solve your problems.

If you love each other, it's always critical that you understand your partner by keeping yourself in their shoe. If your partner has trust issues or any other matter, then try to solve it slowly with love rather than making a mess and hassle of it.

Fighting will cause no good. Anger will give you a headache and make your life miserable. Violence and fights will divert you from your goal and light path. So, be mature and always handle the relationship with love.

Note: It should be mutual, only one partner trying to solve issues won't bring much success. Try to tell your partner how much you love him/her and make them ready to follow these steps.

If nothing works for you, and still you want to be with your partner, it's best for you to live as your partner wants. This medium will make him/her happy and in return will keep you happy.

Social Website Addiction

Symptoms and Solution

I will get into details. So, if you want to know asap whether you are addicted or not, then just read the following minor headings. If you find any symptom matching with your personality then according to our post "Yes You Are Addicted." And to know the solution you can directly read the final italic text under the matching minor heading.

Social Website Addiction
Social Website Addiction

1. Fake Id

If you made a fake Id just for fun or to take revenge, then you are addicted. This action is a symptom of addiction, and here is why;

The social profile is just some well-designed code displaying your personal or fake data. Nobody can harm you physically in this beautifully designed virtual world. If you are getting bothered by little unfriendly chat then my friend, you forget the following fact:

If you will continuously refer a 'donkey' as 'monkey' every day, will the poor donkey somehow transform into an ape? Nope!

So, stupid chats must not bother you unless it harms you by any other means personally. If it does harm you, then there are options to report their misbehavior, such as "Reporting to FB (any social media)", or "Reporting to the nearby police station" or "getting elders/friends involved in it." Always follow the Law. It's developed for your benefit. Don't face your battles alone.

We must help each other, and be there in all good and worst time as well. If you ever feel like quitting, please remember this quote.

Life is a round chain of sadness and happiness. If your bad time is going on then believe that your good times are on the way.
Also, if you want to let your heart out, you can always confess on our page - Random Tales.

You can always be the best version of you and be proud of what you are. If someone is bothering you and if it's bothering you too much. Involve your family, friends or you can also confess on our Page. We will try our best with members to suggest you. Never feel alone.

I am the best version of me
I am the best version of me

2. Mood Swings

It's a common symptom seen amongst girls. If you regularly get mood swings, i.e., if the frequency of mood swings is higher than usual then you are addicted to Social Website.

Mood Swings Frequency is directly proportional to the level of addiction.

Mood Swings is related to level of addiction
Mood Swings is related to the level of addiction

When you continuously stare at Laptop or mobile, checking out your social profile, your brain will keep on thinking about profiles, and messages. Our body tries to catch up the routine we follow daily. If you don't find likes and notifications as you usually get, or if you don't get the reply as you expected, this might get you depressed.

Browsing social profiles for long will get your brain so involved with it that getting fewer likes or late reply might bother you so much that your mood goes off. You forget it's not real life. Depression leads to anxiety and waste of time.

We are supposed to do something productive, ask this question to yourself: "what am I doing with my life?". It is now when you will realize that you were wasting too much time on the virtual world. You should concentrate and try to make your real life fancy and fresh, rather than spending hours on the social website. You do know this fact, but the devil mind will say a conflicting statement against it, and you get a headache unable to decide what to do. This situation implies you are not able to control your sense or make a firm decision.

Restrict yourself to browse the social website for not more than 1 hour a day. No matter what don't break this rule.

3. Removing Friends / Deactivation

You get so addicted that you want same attention all the time in the virtual world. Sometimes you think you can get out of it only by removing friends from your friend's list or by deactivating your account. But the truth is it's all in your brain. If you feel weak because of your friend's social profile included in your friend's list that means you are addicted to Social Website, it shouldn't bother you.

Do meditation, and calm yourself. Then make your mind understand that you will not let the social profiles affect your life. Meditation is the best way one can control their mind. Only you can make yourself understand. You already know what's right, meditation will help you to decide what's best for you.

4. If you browse Social Website more than 1 hour per day

If you are single, it's obvious you will wait for your particular ones. But waiting for them for more than One Hour on Social Website is a clear sign of Addiction.

No matter what, don't wait on-line for more than 1 hour. Career is important. Better the career better will be your future. Do practice Meditation; it's the only way you can control your mind.

Meditation helps one to control their mind
Meditation helps one to control their mind

5. You feel empty without it

If you feel empty without browsing Social Website, then you are thinking about it. And it creates a curiosity to check your notifications and messages as soon as you wake up, whenever you get free time. And it will also be the last thing you do before sleeping.

Create interest in reading novels, or going for an evening walk or something outside The Internet, which will benefit you and your health.

I think these steps will help you to an extent. If you want, you can also refer the WikiHow article on Facebook Addiction. It's nicely written.

Never give up

Never Give Up
It's never The End until you are alive
It's never the END unless you decide to give up. So no matter what, never Quit. Be the kind person you are and never give up on yourself. You can do what you think if you are positive about it.

The Wish - Part 3

[link: - Part 2 (click it to read part 2)]
The forest was very dark and scary, There was just the two of us wandering through the dense forest, we went deeper and deeper, and suddenly I noticed behavior started getting egregious, she was guiding me the path in the forest as if she was very familiar with it's route. "Megha! have you been here before? How is this route so familiar to you?" , she kept walking faster and faster into the forest, I followed her, "maybe she is curious to get it done soon" I said to myself , I didn't wanted her leg to get hurt so I was going to ask her if I should carry her, also because I wanted to be close to her lol. But I noticed something weird, her legs were twisted backward, she was '1 cm' floating in the air, it is then when I observed her completely, I freaked out and stopped walking, I had a panic attack, I didn't know what to do, then she flew up in the sky and landed right before my eyes, her eyes were red, expression was so negative and scary that I was sweating and I screamed and fell down, I knew I was way deep in the forest, so there was no point in running, I decided to confront her also because I really love her, "I loved you from my heart, I was going to do anything for you, why did you ditch me?",  "I need blood, I am thirsty,"  she said in scary voice that echoed, I then remembered how much I love her, "OK Megha! if my blood will make you happy, you can kill me and drink my blood. my love was true, my happiness lies in your happiness, as my first and last gift to you I offer you myself... (opening my arms wide open and closing my eyes)... hey Megha! hug me for the last time, I love you".

"(After a long pause and returning to her previous cute look) .. But how can you love a witch like me? I look ugly and I eat human, I am full of negativity, how can anyone love me?"

"In my life I never thought anyone would love me the way you loved, I never thought anyone would make me feel special the way you did, I don't know you loved me and gave those special moments in true love or not, but those were the best moment of my life, I got so addicted to those moments that I can't live without it, I prefer dying hugging you and feeling you in my arms rather than living without you. I don't care how you look and how you are now, all I know is, you are my Megha."

"But we don't have future together, why will you be with a demon?"

"As far as I am alive, my present and future will always be with you, you might look like a demon but you are my cute little demon. and who said you are ugly? look yourself through my eyes, you look like an angel to me"

"I am in a mess Varun, I am really sorry, I am a demon, I belong to the negative world, You make me want to live like you, I want to be with you but I don't want you to be with a demon like me who tricked you to get into the forest. I will leave you at your home, please don't love me so much. I don't deserve it"

"Look at your heart, did you listen to what you just said? would a demon say that? would a bad negative power say that? you are really beautiful Megha! your heart is pure, you are not a monster"

"I love you Varun! (She smiled and hugged me) ... ( pause ) ..... Wait for me, I need some time ... "

"Varunnnnn! Beta wakeup! don't you wanna go to college?" I heard my mom's voice. "what the hell? how did I end-up here? was I dreaming? how can dream be so life like?, what's going on?".....

The Wish - Part 2

[link: - Part 1 (click on it to read part 1).]

"It's sweet of you, but why are you thanking me?", I wanted to know how did I change somebody, though it's a real difference.

"It's your innocent wish," said Megha, with a beautiful smile, this made me ambivalent about her changed behavior. As it looked healthy but it was anomalous given the fact that I never told her anything about my wish, In fact, I don't even remember which wish is she talking about.

"my wish? which Wish are you talking about?" I could tell that she venerates me from her body language, but I was curious.

"I know you have many questions, would you like to have an ice-cream with me in the park?" she asked in my style, copying my accent and tone. I almost fell for her again seeing her copying me so cutely. "haha you are funny, I wish you stay happy forever Megha! May..". She stopped me "Shhhh!, now please listen to me, I'm going to tell you something which might be tough for you to understand, but you will eventually experience it", "what is it Megha?".

"....(long pause)... I love you too." , I was mesmerized hearing this from her. She continued talking "I was cursed by a woman whose son died because of my immature rudeness. He once proposed me; I thought he was just trying to hit on me, and I rudely told him to get lost from my life forever, and he left the room with a smile and committed suicide that night. His mother's acrimony for me increased in such levels that she cursed me doing some black magic which involved sacrificing herself, her curse was that I will never smile or be happy unless an innocent soul like his son will actually love me and wish good for me. But I will die right after 10 days after that"Listening to this my tears came out, I just got her and our time is already set to 10 days. She is such a cute little girl, thinking about losing her forever made me dead inside. I was crying inside. I wanted to hide her in my arms forever. She continued after a drop of tear.

"I would have kept my feelings about you inside for at least a month and made you run behind me like every other girl, but I have only 10 days. I can't even do that Varun! ... (with a smile along with tears)... btw after I am dead please marry a beautiful girl and be loyal to her", her eyes were wet, but she had a big smile on her face.

"Don't say that Megha, I won't let you leave me alone; I can't love any other girl. Where will I find a weird girl like you? That old lady used black magic is there anything we can do to counter that?", the situation was so involved that her ingenuous eyes made me think of doing anything to remove that stupid black magic from her. "Tell me Megha, if you love me truly then no matter what it is, you have to say."

"You left me no choice. Since you are like his son, only if you will come with me in the forest. And perform a ceremony tonight at the place she performed the black magic, I shall be freed from this curse. I don't want to put you in any risk, please forget it, I want to live with you feeling your breath till my death". I hugged her "Megha, no matter what, I will save you."

Till evening, we decided to live life to the extent possible. I felt like I am in heaven with her, I didn't know I could fall in love with someone so soon, it was like we knew each other from our past birth. We were scared, but I made up my mind and made her agree to perform that ceremony.

That night as planned, I slowly jumped off the window unnoticed. We met near the Jungle; she was scared. I don't know from where I got so much strength that I was ready to face anything for her.

Some thoughts on Ghosts

I have read a lot of scary stories, watched a lot of horror movies, and read a lot of so-called real paranormal experiences. From my vast vicarious experience of the paranormal, I know that many things indicate the presence of paranormal entities.

For example, in haunted places, strange voices can be heard. Things get misplaced, small children can see things(even talk to things), animals react abnormally, etc. Some cases involve people smelling strange smells, from the odour of flowers and perfumes to foul or putrid smells. Some very unnerving experiences include hearing odd sounds like footsteps, bangs, scratching, moans, screams, music, whispering. Some people claim to have seen floating lights and shadows and things seen from the corner of the eye. Some experiences involve doors, taps, and light switches found open(or close), objects lost and sometimes recovered, objects falling from their places(paintings, ornaments, etc.).

Most of the experiences mentioned above have logical explanations. Many are interpretations where one impression received by our senses can be misinterpreted as another. For example, most of the strange sounds and screams might be caused by the wind. Object movements can be attributed to memory lapses. 'Seeing' lights and shadows may happen when our brain is exhausted. But some of these things can't be explained.

A haunted house
A haunted house

I have observed one common thing among all these experiences and I'm sure you must have noticed it too. There are certain areas in these haunted places where people have experienced a sudden feeling of coldness. It's like you walk just 5 metres away and you feel a sudden drop in temperature. And this may happen even during summer. It is the most common experience that occurs together with other things such as objects moving, children/pets seeing things, footsteps, etc. These places are known as Cold Spots. I thought about it a lot. What is the purpose of Cold Spots?

Moving objects and causing sounds/voices takes energy. Now, unlike us, ghosts/spirits can't consume food to create energy. And if you don't have the energy, how'd you manifest yourself and how'd you scare people by moving objects and making sounds? My theory is that these Cold Spots are the places from where these entities absorb thermal energy and transform it into kinetic energy (for moving objects) and sound waves. It is kind of like a solar cell, more like a heat cell. Though my theory directly contradicts the second law of thermodynamics, I think this is the reason for the presence of Cold Spots, if ghosts exist.

Stock Markets and Emotions

A happy dog :)
A happy dog :)
How do you feel after seeing this image? You must be feeling happy, right? After all, it's not every day when you see such a happy dog!

Humans are emotional animals. We get easily angered, happy, excited and gloomy over ordinary things. For example, in news channels, we almost always hear the negative news. Even mild incidents are presented in such a way it makes us think that there is nothing except negativity in entire India. They try to make us bitter and angry, and we quickly become bitter and angry. But sometimes when we hear a positive news, we become happy and excited too. A simple report, a simple sentence, a positive quote and a picture can change our emotions completely.

Similarly in stock markets we encounter emotions every day. These emotions, if unchecked, can harm us a lot and the same emotions can be used to our advantage as well!

Bull market and Bear market

When people are confident about the economy and stock markets, then they're willing to pay a higher price for stocks and these stocks (generally) trade at a higher price to their fair value. It is described as a bull market and these confident people are called bulls.

Similarly, when people are negative, then they sell their stocks at a lower price(sometimes much lower than their fair values). It is known as a bear market and these people are called bears.

So sometimes we have a bullish market and sometimes we have a bearish market.

See this chart of Nifty 50 that represents the weighted average price of top 50 companies in India. It is in between 2006 to 2011.

You can see that between January 2006 and January 2008, Nifty is crazily going up. During this period euphoria was rampant in the market. Most of the stocks became highly overvalued. It was an incredibly bullish market.

And then 2008 came and with it came the global recession. Within few months, Nifty went tumbling down from a high of 6000+ to sub 3000 levels. It was an incredibly bearish market. Most of the stocks were trading at far lower prices compared to their fair values.

As you can see that Nifty recovered in a few months, but it took some time for it to achieve its previous high. Nevertheless, if you're a skilled investor, you'd have sold your stocks when the markets were extremely bullish and you'd have bought a lot of shares when the markets were bearish. It's common sense, right? A simple strategy. Wait for the global recession, buy quality stocks in that downturn, and keep holding them till the market becomes extremely bullish again. The human psychology is not so easy to understand.

The psychology of human misjudgement

Do you know that almost all of our decisions are based on what others around us are doing? We like the things our friends like. We like people that our friends like. We select the courses that our friends are choosing. We vote for a political party based on what the crowd around us are doing and the general perception about it. We are vegetarian(or nonvegetarian) because of our families and friends. In fact, we are more likely to do what people expect from us. It is a typical bias, known as Social Proof.

Social proof is a psychological phenomenon where people copy the actions of other around them to reflect the correct behaviour for a given situation.

And this behaviour is also seen in the stock markets.

In a highly bullish market, you'll see people making a lot of money around you. It will be tough at that time to just sit on your ass and do nothing. You'll become jealous of people who are minting money so quickly. It will be very tempting. And one fine day you'll just lose your patience.

Similarly in a bearish market, there will be so much negativity around you that it'll scare you to your core. Everyone you meet would have lost a lot of money. They'll tell you that investing in stocks is gambling. They'll tell you to keep your money in FD. Don't listen to them. They are the same people who'll be the first one to buy stocks in the next bull market.

So if you can't control your emotions and if you can't keep a relaxed mind, both in a positive and negative environment, then stay away from stocks. It's not for you. But if you're one of those rare individuals, who like to use their brain and who have the patience to wait, then you'll make reasonable returns here.

Note: I'm not saying that buy only in a bear market and sell only in a bull market. The right decision depends on individual stocks. You'll find both types of opportunities in both markets.

Mom:
Look at your classmate "Sneha", she reads all the time sitting in her balcony. When will you study?

Son:
Yes Maa, I am looking at her ;) :p

I have to go back

"you both losers are gonna lose a lot of money over your stupid bet," Rahul said while trying to control his laughter.

"Wait, buddy, you'll see in few minutes who is stupid," Amit said seriously.

"Just because we haven't seen something, doesn't mean it's not there." I said, "It just means that we haven't seen it." We were walking on a deserted dirt path, flanked with dense forest on both sides, on a moonless night. It was utterly dark, save for the lights coming from our torches.

"You both are being idiots. I guess many horror movies can make you superstitious. Better watch pogo from next time." Rahul mocked us.

"If there is a next time...." Amit mumbled something like that.

We had walked 2 km away from the hotel in which we were staying in the nearest town. One of the hotel staff had told us about this "haunted" bungalow in which a family was murdered. He had said that sometimes during moonless nights people hear noises while walking on this road, some people even see a little girl playing near that place. But no one has dared to go inside that bungalow. Not even during the day. Not over a foolish bet. Not until that day.

"Looks like we've reached our destination," I could see the outline of a building about 100 metres in front of us.

"I'm not going inside that thing! I didn't think it would feel that scary" Amit said frantically. It did seem scary. As we walked near it, our lights revealed that the bungalow was surrounded by a wall with a half-opened rusted gate in front of us.

"Look, bro, we're out in the middle of nowhere. You can stay out if you want to but do you want to be alone out here. What would you do if a ghost attacked you?" Rahul grinned.

"We don't have to go inside that thing, you know," Amit said in a shaky voice."But I'll come with you if you go inside."

Without saying another word, Rahul walked inside the gate, with Amit and me moving behind him. The building seemed like it had been abandoned many years ago. The walls were covered with cracks. The windows were broken and shut, except one on the right side on the first floor. As we went near the door, we saw that it was locked, and it was in bad shape.

"Thank god it's locked! Now we can go back." I sighed.

"Wait and watch." Rahul went near the door, raised his right leg and kicked the door hard. His motion reminded me of Daya from CID. I laughed a bit despite being scared. Surprisingly, the lock broke, and the door opened.

"Come on guys! I will prove tonight that there are no such things as ghosts," Rahul said excitedly.

We entered the building. It was pretty big; it didn't seem that big from the outside. It was almost empty, save for few furniture lying in the hallway. There were a few rooms which were empty. We found a room behind the staircase with a closed door. Rahul tried to open it, but it didn't budge, it was stuck as if it was locked from the inside.

"Huh. That's not unusual; during winter doors can get stuck like that" Rahul tried to explain. "Come on, I think we're done with the ground floor, let's go up."

Though this explanation didn't fully satisfied Amit and me, we ignored it for our peace of mind.

Rahul started climbing the stairs.

"R...Rahul, I think we've seen enough. I admit that there are no ghosts. No point of going upstairs. Let's go back to the hotel. We're getting late!" Amit said in a trembling voice.

"What?...We aren't getting late! It'll take just 15 minutes more; then we'll go back."

With a resigned sigh, Amit and I followed him upstairs. There were three rooms on the 1st floor.

We went in the first room on the right. It was empty. We went to next room, and it was empty too. Nothing unusual happened.

The room on the extreme left was the one with the open window. This room, however, wasn't empty. As we went inside it, we saw a table in the centre of the chamber. It was spotless, with not even a dust particle on it. A book lay on the table. It looked new.

"What....what the hell is that?" This time, even Rahul seemed scared." Maybe some homeless person has been living here," He tried to explain, but there was a hint of doubt in his voice.

"Let's us go now! I'm not feeling good about this," Amit whispered.

"Yaa let's go, we've seen enough."

"Wait! It is the last fuck**g room. Let's just check out this book and then we'll leave quickly."

We went near the book. It was a sketchbook. Rahul picked it up and opened it. We all peered at it in the dim light of the torch. There were cartoons, painted on it, of a man, a woman and a little girl who held something which seemed like a book. All were smiling, and standing in front of the bungalow.

Rahul turned the page. It was the same painting except there was a tall, dark figure standing in the corner, away from the family.  His face covered by a hood. His eyes were glowing.

Rahul turned the page again. The dark figure now stood behind the family. The family seemed unaware of it.

On the next page, both the man and woman were lying on the ground covered in blood, and the dark figure was standing in the same place with a saw in his hand. The little girl, with a horrified expression on her face, was running toward the front door.

With trembling hands, Rahul turned the page again. The dark figure was moving towards the front door. The little girl, with her tears running down her cheeks, was standing behind the open window of the same room in which we were standing right now.

On the last page, everything was dark as if it was night, and there were glowing eyes behind the window.

We were so scared that we didn't utter a single word. As soon as Rahul put the sketchbook back on the table, we heard a loud thud from downstairs. We froze. It was followed by a bang as if a door has been opened with force. It was followed by the sound of slow footsteps.

Tak.........Tak....

"come on guys we can use this window to get down," I said quickly "common let's go quickly we still have some time."

Tak

I ran towards the window. I looked down. It was impossible to climb down from there. Not enough time for the three of us to plan. But there was a branch of a big tree three metres on the left and 8 feet below. It would be a difficult jump but not impossible. I looked back. Amit was sitting on the ground, with his hands on his face and Rahul was screaming at him to come.

Tak

"What the fuck are you doing!" I screamed "Come fast! Rahul just drag him here!"

Tak...... It was coming closer.

Rahul pulled Amit's hand, tried to drag him. But Amit was just frozen at his place. He didn't attempt to move at all.

Tak....any minute now

"Common!  What a fuck!" I wanted to go help Rahul drag him. But I was scared. We didn't have enough time.

Tak.......There appeared the dark figure, with glowing eyes, on the door. Rahul froze at his place.

I jumped.

I caught the branch which prevented a few broken bones, and I got down from there. I started running.

I left my friends there to die. I'm a coward. I should have helped them. I should have died there with them. I regret my decision to this day. I wasn't supposed to live.

Their families don't even know what happened to them. They didn't know that we went on a trip. I feel like shit for not telling them.

But for the past few days, I'm having nightmares. I see the same scene, before I jump, in my dreams. In my dream, I change my mind, and I don't jump. I go in front of my friends to protect them. Just as the dark figure comes near me, I wake up.

Now I've started seeing things.  Things in the shadows. Things from the corner of the eye. I hear things. I hear whispers as I type words on the keyboard. I haven't slept for three days.

I can't live like this. I have to go back asap to that place. I have to give closure to my friends, for my peace of mind. I'm leaving right now.

Please forgive me.

The Wish - Part 1

[ Series of 3 parts: Part 1 | Part 2 | Part 3 ]

Like every fresh beginning of any course, I saw many new faces, but this new girl was surprisingly quiet, quite as dead, and never spoke to anybody. She used to sit on her favorite spot at the corner alone. Her face was always pale without any expression.
I kept noticing her for some days. One fine day Prof. Lakshman a.k.a "Prof. Laughatron", cracked a funny joke, which was so hilarious that everybody laughed very hard except her. It made me curious, "what's wrong with her? Why is she so dead inside?  Maybe she went through hell in her life. Maybe I should talk to her." Other girls had already made their groups, and nobody noticed her. She was all alone.
I decided to talk to her. And, ask if she could lend me her notebook for one day, as I was absent yesterday.

"Hey! Megha, can I borrow your book for one day? I was absent yesterday (with a nervous smile)". She gave me her notebook without saying a word. I figured maybe I should ask a question which will make her say something, "Well, it's cold in here, isn't it? Would you like to go out to the canteen and have a cup of coffee with me?". She nodded her head up and down slowly. I was disappointed as I wanted to hear her say something.
Well, we went to have the coffee. The entire time I kept on talking to avoid the awkwardness, as I knew she was a shy type and a little weird. I stopped talking when I saw her drink her coffee. She was drinking it like a cute little kitten. I kept looking at her. It was then I noticed how cute she was. I don't know why I felt like holding her softly and kiss her forehead. I wish I could remove all her pain from her life.
The next thing I notice is: I am lying on my bed, and my mom is trying to wake me up. "What the hell just happened?"   How am I here? I was in the canteen. I was so curious, I asked my mom, "Maa, why am I in bed? I was in my college", mom laughed and said "just shut-up and get ready for college you drama king."
I was very confused; maybe I was dreaming I convinced myself. "Varun! Your friend Megha is here to go to college with you" said mom. I was both happy & confused, "I will be there in a minute Maa". I got ready real quick, and as soon as I reached the hall, I saw Megha laughing and talking with my mom. I had never seen her smile before. "Wtf? Is my Maa such a good comedian? Even Prof. Laughatron couldn't make her smile a bit, but my Maa made her laugh without even breaking a sweat-thank you Maa, I am proud of you" I said to myself in my mind. And with a blush, I looked at Megha's beautiful eyes and said "Come Megha, we are getting late”, while leaving I saw my Maa smiling and mouthing slowly "She is nice, I like her (with a wink)". It made me think "No wonder Megha Laughed, which Maa says that to her son? Maybe my mom is not possessive at all, or does she love my stupid named sake little brother Vishnu more?”. “Are you thinking something" a sweet voice reached my ear, "OMG, she is talking to me (with a blush)" I responded "yes, I was thinking will go every day together to college, where do you live exactly? And I am glad you found my home”, "I am your neighbor you silly; I live next building" she said with a hypnotizing smile. "Mannnn! She smells so good. I so wanna hold her hand and walk with her" I thought in my mind, and I responded "Oops! My bad! Well, why are you so quiet in class? I mean I feel special today that at least you spoke to me.", I was curious. "That was my past, because of you I can smile again, thank you Varun"..........       to be continued in Part 2.

Introduction to Stock Market - financials

Dalal Street Bull
Even stock markets have bulls!
My previous post on equity markets received a good response, so I decided to continue educating our followers about the wonderful world of shares. By the way, in India, just 2% of population invest in stocks, while in developed countries like the US, almost 50% people invest in stocks.

It hurts to see that most of our very profitable companies (which we call 'Indian') are owned by FIIs (Foreign Institutional Investors) and FPI (Foreign Portfolio Investors). For example, more than half of HDFC bank, which is the most valued bank in India and the second most valued bank in the entire world, belongs to foreign investors. Just a few thousand invested in HDFC bank, 20 years ago, would be worth crores by now. Similarly, Indian people have lost billions of dollars of profits, in many companies, to foreign investors. Just because most of the Indian investors invest for short term, they can't hold high-quality stocks for the long term, and thus, most of us aren't able to build wealth in equity markets.

The power of compounding

The human brain isn't wired to process compounding. Our brain can process arithmetic progression. You can quickly calculate the result of adding a number 10 times. But can you calculate the result of growing a number by 15% every year for 30 years? Take a guess.

Let's see the result of compounding  INR 1 lac at 8%, 15%, 20%, 25% and 30% for 30 years.

Compounding for 30 years
Compounding for 30 years
You can see that at 8%, which is our current (government bonds, FDs)interest rate and which is going to go down with time, the amount will become INR 10 lacs. If I include the tax on interest, the final value will be very less.

But suppose you get your hands on a stock that grows by 15%, 20%, 25% or 30%. Isn't the contrast between the end results astounding! Increase the time by 30 years more and you won't believe your eyes.

For 60 years.

Compounding for 60 years
Compounding for 60 years
It is the power of compounding. I assure you that it's near impossible to see 30% compounding for such a long time. Even 20-25% compounding is hard. But many Indian companies like Nestle, HUL, Infosys, TCS, Asian Paints, Kansai Nerolac, Apollo Hospitals, ITC, HDFC Bank, HDFC, Kotak Mahindra Bank, etc., have given such kind of compounding in the past. Some of these have given even more than 30% for a specified period of time. And that's why these companies have become so big. But after a certain size, growth starts slowing down, and that is natural.

That's why we should try to spot these companies when they are small in size. But even now, after becoming big some of these businesses will continue giving superior returns compared to fixed deposits and government bonds. The trick is to buy them below their fair value and keep holding on to them. If you pay a very high price(much higher than the fair value), even for the greatest company, you're going to lose money. But I'll come to the concepts of valuation later. For now, let me make you guys familiar with certain terms and ratios used while evaluating a stock.

Stock market jargon

Here are some financial terms you'll encounter while studying financial results of a company.

Accounting period: Financial statements are made for a fixed period. For most of the companies, the annual accounting period is from 1st April to 31st March, and this annual period is divided into four parts of 3 months each, called quarterly periods. Every listed company publishes quarterly results and annual results. They also publish an Annual Report of the business every year.

These are the terms you can find in a typical profit/loss statement.

Sales/Revenue/Total Income: Value of the products sold/ or services delivered during an accounting period.

Operating Profit(OP): Think of operating profit(EBITDA) as profit you get after you cover the costs of running your day to day business like Raw material, Salaries, Maintenance, Marketing expense and other business expenses. So OP it is Sales minus operating costs.

Operating Profit Margin(OPM):  Operating profit/Sales. The higher the OPM, the more efficient the business (because it has lesser costs compared to its competitors).
It is also known as EBITDA - Earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and amortisation.

Net Profit: Operating profit -  (other costs like Interest paid on debt and depreciation/amortisation of assets)  - tax paid for the period

EPS:   Earnings per share =  (Net Profit)/(No of shares). Suppose the company has INR 10 crore net profit and it has one crore outstanding shares, so its EPS becomes 10/1 = 10/share.

P/E:  Price to earnings ratio is (the Current trading price of the stock)/(EPS).
Let's take the above example.  Suppose the current price of the stock is INR 100/share and EPS is 10, so the P/E becomes 10. Generally speaking, the lower the P/E, the cheaper the stock price. But P/E ratio, in isolation, can give a wrong picture of the stock. It is a useful tool in comparing a stock to other stocks in the same industry(or comparable).

Now let me give you an example of a profit/loss statement

Income Statement
Income Statement

The is a snapshot from the Dec quarter result of Hatsun Agro Ltd, A south based dairy products company.

You can see Total Income from operations, amortisation which is 830 crores(For Dec-15),  it's also known as sales and revenue.

You can see "profit from operations before Other income and finance costs" which is 43.53 crores. Add to this Depreciation and Amortization expense (27.12 crores) and you'll get Operating profit(EBITDA) which is 70.65. (Note: depreciation and amortisation are not operating costs)

You can see net profit which is 17.55 crores for the dec-15 quarter.

Now for finding EPS, we need to find the total number of shares. You can see share capital, which is 10.87 crores with a face value of INR 1. Just divide the share capital by the face value and you'll find the total number of shares. Total shares = 10.87/1 = 10.87 crores.

So, EPS for the December quarter is 17.55/10.87 = 1.62

You can compare the dec quarter results with the previous quarter results given above and check the growth rate of the company and the improvement in operating profit margins. You can also see the 9 month results(from April to Dec) and you can see that the net profit(EPS) growth is very fast - from 2.83 to 7.11. What do you think is the reason for this EPS growth? Analyze the statement again and give your answer in comments.

P/E ratio can't be determined from quarterly EPS, and we won't know the annual EPS till the march quarterly results are out. But by observing the growth rate in EPS, and by observing the 9 month EPS (which is 7.11), we can make an educated guess of about 9.5 annual EPS. The current share price is 414, so estimated P/E ratio would be 414/9.5 =  43.35. Does this stock look expensive to you?

I think this is enough for now. In the next post, we're going to look at certain Balance Sheet terms. If you've any questions, please feel free to ask.
